PROJECT EVALUATION

I had not heard or known anything about the brand I was given to research upon so it was quite refreshing to learn all about an unfamiliar brand. The trip to Oxford Street Selfridges in London was my first time experience in the Trish McEvoy counter. My first hand research began there with discovering and testing the products that I had never paid attention to before. I felt it had a fresh unique selling point and it was great to have more knowledge about this brand.

The final looks that were created were based on Trish McEvoys simplistic and beauty enhancing make up style. Practicing these looks were great benefits in perfecting beauty make up skills. I especially enjoyed classes with make up artist Mirijana Vasovic as I input all her amazing beauty tips and tricks into my work. I found her guidance very useful even though there were only a few lessons with her, especially tips on application for perfect lips.

The main areas I could have improved on were on the designs of the hair, which I feel is my weakness. I think I could have input more braids, as I was being a little too safe with trying to make the looks as natural as possible. The ethos of this brand is to enhance women’s natural features with beautifying make up. There wasn’t much emphasis in the reference images of hair, however looking back I could have input more hair techniques such as the different types of braiding.

Overall I really enjoyed this project throughout the journey, as beautifying make up is my favourite make up to achieve. It has really benefited me in progressing with beauty type make up and it was very interesting to discover and research into a new brand in depth.

TIMED ASSESSMENT - THE FINAL LOOK

MODEL

I chose Charlotte Roffey to model for this look as her striking eyes had the perfect tones of blue to suit and compliment the colours used for the make up.

INSPIRATION

I wanted to base my look around the vibrant and exotic colours of this season of spring. Colours such as lime greens, pastel blues with a little splash of yellow. This colour combination inspired me to research images of spring birds and that’s where my Idea began.

MAKE UP AND HAIR

The main focus was planned on the eyes. I aimed for the eyes to resemble a spring bird from making the inner corner of the eye shaped into a beak, to drawing out soft-feathered lines on the outer eye to mimic the tail. I pulled out small sections from various faux feathers and placed them on top of the eyelashes to make them appear like fluttering wings. I kept everything else quite simple with a nude lip and used a bronzer/blush duo for cheek contour.
I chose a sleek hairstyle with a slight twist to frame around the dramatic eyes. I straightened out Charlotte’s natural curly ringlets and after I added some Moroccan oil to seal over the hair and add shine. I then finished it off by plaiting a fishtail braid down the centre of the head.

TIMED ASSESSMENT - PRACTICING THE LOOK

I want to base my inspiration on spring birds as the colours are so attractive, bright and vibrant, a perfect opportunity to make a dramatic make up look for Illamasqua. As I was playing around and practicing the delicate feather type lines, I thought it'l add more dimension by adding false feathers on top of the eye look. As for the rest of the base, wanted to keep it really muted and nude but dewy. This would go well with the eyes and make them pop out to be the main feature of this design.

In the studio where I practiced on my model charlotte, the make up came to life and turned out great on her eyes as the colours complimented her eyes so much. I changed the placement of the feathers as I found out cutting them up and placing them like individual lashes stood out more than putting them on top of the eyelid.

THE FINAL 5 BEAUTY LOOKS

1. Lips - Trish's style of lips are often really natural but with a gloss finish or stained type lip. So for this look I have decided to try and achieve a cherry pink stained lip with a little lip gloss on top to finish. For the foundation base it will be really natural with a semi dewy finish. The eyeshadow and eyebrows will be kept simple. The eyeshadow will be a light brown base with a darker bronze colour on the crease for contour, and for the eyebrows they will be filled in with powder.  For the hair I want to create natural waves.

2. Eyes and Brows - My model has really thin eyebrows so this will be a good challenge to create an illusion of thicker brows using brow powder and brow pencil. I will add a natural pair of fluttery eyelashes on with a matte brown smokey eye to enhance the eyes more. To finish this simple and enhancing make up off, baby light pink lipgloss will be applied to the lips. I plan to tie the hair up into an up style or a sleek straight high pony tail.

3. Natural Look - For the natural no make up make up, I will contour the face and cheekbones over a light foundation base with a sun kissed colour bronzer. The eyebrows will be brushed up neatly and filled slightly with brow powder for a clean, fresh look. I will add highlighter just above blusher that will be in a peachy tone. BB beauty lip balm will be applied to the lips to finish. My models hair is naturally beach wavy, so i will straighten it slightly to create looser looking waves and then adding some serum or Moroccan oil to calm any hair frizz.

4. Smokey Eyes - From working on top of the eyes and brow design, I will add a darker shimmery brown on the outer eyelid to make it more dramatic on top of the matte base from the previous look. Dark brown eyeshadow colours suit my model more than black as it would appear too harsh on her. I will also add on a bright glossy orangey-red colour to the lips to define the whole look. I will also pin the hair back as this will keep it from distracting the smokey eye and lip focus.

5. Metallic Eyes - I will use a metallic copper brown creme shadow as the main base for the lid, and then working on top of it with a darker shade of eyeshadow to blend the edges out. I chose this copper colour because I think it really suits and compliments my models skin tone. The foundation base will be again natural but with more contouring with a matte brown shadow and bronzer to blend it all out nicely. I will prime the lips before using a lipstick that matches my models natural shade of lips. To finish I will highlight where the light catches on the face such as the top of the cheeks, down the tip of the nose and just slightly above the lips and the chin. I will create loose curls with the hair for a softer looking outcome.

IN THE STUDIO - HAIR

Here are some examples of some of the hair sessions working in the studio. These particular sessions were really useful as I definitely picked up a lot more new skills that I didn't have experience of before. I intend to input a couple of these techniques in my 5 beauty looks.
